Classmates responding about Dick Shanahan

I am so sorry to here this. I had lunch with Dick last year and he seemed to be doing fairly well at the time. He was such a nice person and so devoted to his family. This is very sad news.

Yep! That's just how I remember him. He looks just like he did 45 years ago - how does that work? His children have had a lot of loss in a short period of time - hope they're o.k.

I had a hard time in High School because I transferred as a sophomore. Dick was one of the few people I can remember being nice to me. He was so friendly to everyone. he will surely be missed.

I am so saddened. We have lost some very special people. We are so lucky to be able to say they have been part of our lives.

I will miss Dick, he was a strong fighter, but unfortunately some of us lose the big fight too soon. Glad I saw him at the 45th reunion. My condolences to his family. I am certain all of us from FM who knew him are saddened by this news.

I hope our class succeeded in providing him with a few more good years. It was great to see him smiling and doing so well at the 2011 reunion

This is sad news. I'm sure Dick fought as hard as he could to keep going. He will be remembered very fondly by all who knew him.
It was not the best of Thanksgivings but we still keep going and give thanks that we are healthy. Thanks for letting us all know about Dick, he was a great fellow.

Very sad news! Dick was of the nicest people from school that I remember! Will keep his family in my prayers!

So sad to read in the Post Standard of the passing of Dick Shanahan. I remember him as a real nice guy, always in a good mood. It's hard to see so many of the people we knew from high school passing at such early ages. It is nice to see that so many people have sent comments. I'm sure his children will appreciate to see how well their dad was remembered.

So very heart breaking to hear about Dick! It feels good that we were able to help him have a few more years of a pretty good life.
Taffy, good to hear from you!I  I hope his children gain some consolation form our comments. He sure was one of the most pleasant and unassuming members of our class!
I have known Dick since before kindergarten and I know there are many Manlius "kids" especially the Manlius "walkers" from St. Anne's, who knew him even longer! Tom , John, Marty, Suzanne, Mike, Dave V, Wayne. It is quite a loss! And I don't know about you, but it's creepy that we are becoming the "older generation!"

This truly saddens me. I did speak with him after the reunion. He sounded great. I have known him since Kindergarten. He was a good friend for many years.
