Michael J. Brown Obituary July 14, 2015 Michael J. Brown, 66, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday with his family at his side. He was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School and worked as an electrician for the IBEW Local 43. He was a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Nation, coach of women's lacrosse at F-M, and enjoyed golf and fishing. He served in the US Army during Vietnam. His greatest love was his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cathleen Hahn Brown; and daughters, Rebecca Brown of Fayetteville, Emily Hunt (Ryan) of Virginia and Sarah Hunt (Brian) of Fayetteville. He was "Grampy" to Teagan, Audrey, Zoe, Ethan and Declan. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Brown (Sue) of Tennessee; cousin, Katherine Moran of Fayetteville; nieces, Kimberly and Samantha; and many cousins. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A service will follow the calling hours.

Obituary November 28, 2012 Herman "Skip" Arthur Hale,

Born December 5, 1946, raised in Manlius. Married the love of his life, Kathy (Bush) Hale, on March 8, 1969. They moved to Cortland from LaFayette in 1972.
Survivors: sons Kipp (Sloan) and Shane, both of Cortland; daughters Sunday (Shawn) Earle of Cortland and Shannon (Ben) Westmoreland of McGraw; siblings, Gerald (Kim) and Lori (Mike) Pease; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his beloved dog, Murphy. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Bessie Hale. Skip was a truck driver most of his life, traveling over the roads for a number of years. Most recently he worked for Black Horse Carriers, Tully. He had many side businesses over the years that kept him busy. He loved the auctions and making a deal. Skip had a huge heart for giving. He was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the underdog. Skip loved to play various sports, from basketball, softball, bowling and golf to shooting trap and skeet. He loved to travel and camp. He loved a good prank, a good deal and a good meal. But his greatest joy and happiness came from his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. Interment will follow in Tully Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Herman's name my be directed to Loaves and Fishes of Cortland County or the Cortland County SPCA. -

This is so sad. Sandy was among the kids who attended the "little school house" next to
the main school on Pleasant street in Manlius There were just too many of us baby boomers to fit elsewhere . We were  friends  through grade school. I have many fond memories of her sweetness.
 I still remember where her house was along Troop K road by the creek and always thought it was a cool spot.  I saw her once in the early 80s but that was the last contact. I'm sorry she has left us at such a young age.

Reading these posts are like a sad stroll in time.  No sense in hurrying through.  Faces flash back in your mind along with the "what if".  I was not aware of how many of our classmates have already left us, a bit of a shock.  Our brains play a joke on us and we still think we are the young person we once were.  Debbie, thanks for all you have done and do to keep us together.  I never felt I really had many friends in FM, we have discussed this quite thoroughly, but I realize a great number of us felt the same.  God Bless all the souls that have left us.

Like Ralph Braun expressed, it is just so sad to see that Sandy has passed.  There was a special bond for those of us that attended "the Little Schoolhouse."  She was very special, such a sweet, pretty girl.  I didn't know her after we grew up, but I do feel privileged to be able to call her a true friend while I attended F-M.  She will be missed.  Prayers go out to her family and friends.

She was born December 14, 1947 in Manlius, NY to Niles and Grace Tice. 

She is survived by her husband, Ernest E. Flanders; children, Scott (Lynn) and Robin; grandchildren, Emma, Leslie, Jeremy and Kyle (deceased); and a great-grandchild, Kyle. She will be missed by the folks at Magnolia Point Realty and her beloved church, Living Waters. She was loved by all who knew her.

I'm very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I knew him well as a kid. We lived fairly close. Perhaps you know that he served in the "brown water navy" down in the delta area of Vietnam.  I believe he was stationed on a PBR (patrol boat river) among the many rivers and back waters there. None of this may be familiar to you but the point is,  many areas of Vietnam were heavily defoliated with agent orange, in particular the Mekong delta. There is no doubt in my mind that his illness was directly related to his service. The illness that was mentioned is on the VA's list , presumed to be related to agent orange poisoning. There were other highly toxic agents used all over the country but agent orange tops the list of killers.

It's very sad that people who served this country have been paid back with poison that doesn't show up until much later in life.

We will all miss you brother.

So very sad. We have lost so many classmates. I was going to meet up with Dave during this trip to Syracuse. I have not visited with him since 1965 but many Facebook conversations. I waited too long. But this gives me the opportunity to tell the rest of my classmates I have so many great memories of F-M and many of you. Dave Courtwright, I don't remember well.  I know we went to school together, most likely had some classes together.  It's 'funny" how things work out.  We became friends again, on FaceBook, and my husband, Ed Cranford, and Dave shared their Vietnam experiences together, often.  They were the brothers that anyone who was in that war become.  He will be missed by us both.  Our prayers go out to his family and friends.

David L. Courtwright, 66 of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday at the V.A. Medical Center in Syracuse. David was raised in the Pompey, Manlius and Fayetteville area and then was a resident of the Town of Volney for over 25 years. He was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 1966. He was employed as a truck driver for over 30 years, most recently with Gypsum Express in Baldwinsville. David was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Navy. He was of the Catholic faith. David was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Lois Courtwright and a brother, Peter Courtwright.

Surviving are his sons, David J. (Anne) Courtwright of Tully, Patrick (Jennifer) Courtwright of Mexico and Christopher Todd Courtwright of Pulaski; his daughters, Erin Comstock (Scott) of Parish, Shada Courtwright (Chris) of Liverpool, Abbagail Courtwright (Brett) of Constantia and Kylie Courtwright serving in the U.S. Navy; his brothers, William of Manlius and Thomas (Pat) of Chittenango; his sister, Carol O'Hora (John) of Florida; his sister-in-law, Amanda Courtwright of Chittenango; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 5 p.m. at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Burial with military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango. This is such sad news.
Rich and I go back to kindergarten and I have so many wonderful   filled memories of growing up with him as a friend and the great times we had.
Teen age summers were special because we both lived in Oran then and spent most of the warm days at a particular swimming hole along Limestone creek,  fishing, camping out and pestering the local neighbors.
That consisted  mostly of bothering and flirting with the Jowett and Gaulin girls, although some of the other neighbors living in that area were recipients of actions a little less noteworthy. You can guess at the adolescent pranks that were executed.
 Sometimes we got caught sometime we felt we had really pulled a fast one on some unsuspecting neighbor and laughed heartily over our success, but seldom would these fits of teenage excess result in any real damage done. We were just pushing the limits.
Rich, Al Clute, Dave Copeland and I could be found at the "flat piece" as we named it, most hours of the day and sometimes nights throughout the whole summer.
 I never look back on those years without wishing they could be again. The days and we, were so carefree and full of what the future would bring.
I stopped there a few years ago  and the memories came flooding back, of course the place looks so different now , not nearly so open and much smaller in scope then the memory of it but the sparkle of youth was still there waiting to be revisited.
The bridges along the old Oran Delphi road nearby are closed and crumbling now but in crossing them on foot I could still see us sitting on the concrete siding talking, plotting a caper or just absorbing the wonder of being without a serious care in the world. Rich was an integral part of it all that and It would have been a lesser experience without him there.
 In a few short years, everything would change forever, as it must but from this late vantage point , let me say, those remain some of the best years of our lives, never to be repeated but never to be forgotten.
 He was a good pal and I morn his passing with a deep sadness

Richard Edward Milovicz

While holding the hand of family, Richard Edward Milovicz passed away peacefully on November 30, 2013 to join his beloveds, brother, Stephen C. Milovicz, niece, Kimmy McCarthy, and dog, Bo.

Rich was born November 23, 1948, the middle child of the late Stephen A. and Catherine Milovicz, in Manlius, NY. He served proudly as a sonarman in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of first class petty (coat) officer by the age of 23. He graduated with high honors from N.C. State, a chemical engineer, and retired from a full career at Proctor & Gamble in Baltimore, MD. Rich loved golf and had a penchant for rescuing stray animals.

He had a daughter of whom he was very proud, and she is unceasingly grateful for the father who taught her algebra at 3, gifted her confidence and strength through his steadfast love, showed her how to be honest and empathetic, and passed down a penchant for rescuing stray animals.

He is survived by his daughter, Leigh Barton and her mother, Sue Milovicz, his sister, Kathie Brunken, sister-in-law, Diane Milovicz, godmother, Mary McWilliams, dog, Jasper, cat, Rain, and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:30pm Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Chaplain Anne Gordon officiating. The family will greet friends before and after the service starting at 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to New Hanover County Humane Society, 2405 N. 23rd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Jon Spring, 66, of Manlius died unexpectedly on Friday. Born in Syracuse, Jon was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School and attended Auburn Community College. Jon retired from the Village of Fayetteville DPW. He owned Pompey Lawn Service for over 30 years and was currently a bus aide to special needs children in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District. He was a member of the Oran Community Church and the Manlius Fire Department where he had served as DMO and ambulance driver. He was an Air Force Veteran of Vietnam. He was born in Syracuse on May 11, 1948 and graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School. He served with the US Navy from 1968 to 1971. Randy was a supervisor for CSX for 33 years. Richard William Shanahan, 64, of Manlius, passed away on Saturday. He was a graduate of FM where he enjoyed playing baseball. Richard retired from the USPS in 1998. He enjoyed baseball and golf and had a passion for Corvettes. Richard was an Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. He was predeceased by his wife Maureen Spinella in 2010 as well as his parents William and Lora Shanahan.
Survivors: son Jesse Ryan and daughter Jenna Renee; cousin Sandy Cerimeli as well as many great friends.

Services: Noon on Tuesday at St. Anns Church. Burial will follow at Manlius Village Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10:00 to Noon at the church, 104 Academy Street, Manlius.

I didn't know Sandy very well in high school. It came as quite a surprise when she contacted me and also Wayne Trivelpiece who lives out here as well. She said she had been coming to San Diego for some time and her brother, Ted owned a bar in town and would we like to get together. This was the start of a long and lasting friendship between us. We looked forward to getting together every time she came out here and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to meet her and have lunch with her back in Syracuse in June. That was the last time I saw her

She will be greatly missed. She always seemed to light up the room and make everyone comfortable when we got together. I know she made my life more meaningful. The world will be a little colder without her.

I'm so sorry to hear about Paul's passing. We knew each other from the earliest grade school years on. He was a gentle bear of a guy. We were in the 4-H together as I recall and often were in the same classes and rode the same buses. In those days there was only one bus that took all us kids from the outlying areas to and from school.It was sometimes a very long ride.
I'm sorry and will miss a childhood friend.
